Presented by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Night Out in the Parks provides world-class performances in Chicago’s neighborhood parks throughout the year! What started as a summer arts and cultural series in 2013, is now expanding to cover the rest of the year.
Arts programming in neighborhoods across the city advances the goals of the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Cultural Plan. In its third year, the 2015 Night Out in the Parks series brings more than 1,000 events and programs to neighborhood parks throughout the city, making community parks safe havens and hubs of activity. The Chicago Park District has partnered with the arts and community organizations listed below, to expand and produce this successful initiative.

Experience a four-day immersion into African culture and heritage in Chicago's Washington Park, which becomes transformed into an authentic African village during the Labor Day holiday weekend. Over 300 vendors and artisans from Africa and the African Diaspora will present artifacts, textiles, traditional crafts and museum quality art. Enjoy the global arch of African influenced food, music, and dance traditions during an entertainment rich, family-focused celebration.
Each year, the grounds of the African Fest come alive as a simulated African village, replete with special-interests pavilions featuring African drumming; colorful and rich fabrics; hand-crafted fine arts; interactive demonstrations; health and wellness workshops; spectacular jewelry; children's programming; author and book readings; and captivating entertainment.

The Black Women’s Expo, now in its 21st year and the nation’s longest running exposition of its kind, with Live Entertainment and garners the attendance of thousands at this annual ticketed event, more than 25,000 in 2013, and it has become an essential marketing tool for corporations seeking to engage this lucrative, upscale African American consumer in the country’s third largest market, Chicago.
